Yamaha FZ 16 – What Yamaha needs to do to make it better

I learned my bike driving on Yamaha two stroke bikes. Since then I was a big fan of Yamaha. But once Yamaha started manufacturing 4-stroke bikes, what churned out was boring and hardly exciting models with not so powerful engines. End of the story. Yamaha India changed its outlook with the launch of R15 and FZ16 bikes. The more recent FZS and Fazer are adding more gems to Yamaha India’s crown.

Inspired by the look of Yamaha FZ16 and its impressive  specs , I bought a FZ16 couple of months ago. And I am very happy about it. But there is quite a bit of rough edges that Yamaha had to work on . If you are , for the first time, reading about FZ16 , this is not the article for you. This is for people who knows how good the bike is  and want to know the rough sides of it.

1. Yamaha FZ16 rear brake is drum type. I was shocked to realize how weak this break is. Unless you are a body builder you cannot bring the bike to halt using only the rear brake. Initially, I thought that this could be a problem specific to my bike. But when I discussed with other FZ16 friends everybody shared the same feeling. Yamaha needs to correct this, else FZ 16 might not be a hit for long time or better replace them with disc brakes.
2. FZ16 is low mounted bike. what I mean by that is that the gap between the surface and the bottom portion of the bike is less. So if you are riding with a bulkier friend in the pillion , you are more likely to hit the bumps on the road compared to any other bike.
3. The FZ16 black colour looks shining and awesome in the showrooms. but after few use , it becomes dull and lack luster. Don’t believe me, go and check the FZ16 parked in theatres and shopping malls. Compare them with other bikes. However the orange and red colours are good.

Stroke of luck : Free food

Today , myself and my colleague Radha krishna  went to Egg Factory , St. Marks Rd. for lunch.  After having a Desi Penne Pasta and Scrambled egg Spaghetti, I asked for the bill. What I got was a slip saying that my bill got waivered. Ya, surprisingly yes. Today Egg factory was celebrating their 1st anniversary, and to commemorate that they waived off our bill. Good stroke of luck.

I wish I could have ordered some dessert…
